Birth Date

I woke up to the first of the birthday celebrations yesterday morning. Even though Jeremiah had worked until 2:30a the night before, he still remembered to set out two tickets and a sweet napkin note for Saturday morning. And where'd we go? Cirque du Soleil!!!

I have always always always (emphasis on the always!) wanted to go to Cirque du Solei so I practically jumped out of my pants when I saw two tickets to Kooza sitting on our kitchen table. (Okay, plus I've always secretly thought it'd be cool to join the circus!)

We went up to Irvine to watch the show and then enjoyed dinner at the Yard House afterward (ah yum!). The show was absolutely insane. So cool! As we drove home, we talked about our favorite parts and I'm pretty sure we just relived the entire show. The unicyle, the trapeez, the contortionists, the acrobats, the tight-rope walkers... so stinkin cool!!

Here's one of my favorite tricks:

Happy Friday!

Sweet, sweet Friday
how I've dreamed of you for the past several days

I feel prettiest...
when my hair is curled or straight
when my face is gently kissed with freckles
when I'm wearing mascara
when my jeans cover my ever-growing love handles
and when..

It's Friday!

Little Letters

Dear Fish Sticks & French Fries, you're my new favorite freezer meal. Delish!

Dear Jeremiah, I'm really glad we snagged each other many moons ago. Thanks for being my high school sweetheart.

Dear Vending Machines, stock more water. Please & Thank You.

Dear Craft Station, you're actually starting to come along just fine.

Dear DVR, thanks for saving all my favorite shows until I have time to watch them.

Dear Weekend, woo! hoo!

Dear Runny Nose and Cough, you're not invited to the weekend. So sorry!

Dear Future Children, I think of you a lot. And pray for you, too!

Dear DSC, please come back on the radio. Please, please, please (on my knees begging)

Dear IT, how about we just schedule our downtimes during working hours? Ah, c'mon.. I thought it was a great idea!

Dear Flower Looms, get here quick. I spent a pretty penny on you and can't wait to put you to good use.

Dear LOST, I'm beyond excited for your return on Tuesday. What do you think about making this NOT your last season?

Dear Tom, right now my husband looks a little like you did in risky business... sans the socks.

Dear Friday, you're oh so faithful. I'm glad we get to meet again tomorrow. Thanks a million!

Dear God, it's amazing what you say when I shut up.

Brain Dump

I feel like I've been in meetings all week. When am I ever going to get anything done?
It's really a shame that my shower never got hot this morning. I'm stinky.
Chili and cornbread have become one of my favorite cold weather meals.

Life Unexpected is coming into the picture right as Gilmore reruns have hit season seven. Thank Jesus.

Cramps are lame. Like, really lame.
I'm excited for this weekend, lots of fun goodies.
The vending machine was out of water bottles today so I drank coke. I didn't hate it.

I'm such a sucker for routine.

I'm IT. That's weird.

I'm pretty bummed about the way my craft station is turning out. I'll post pictures once I get it finished in the next couple weeks.

I love traveling. And can't wait to do more of it.
My hair really needs to grow faster. I'm having a pretty tough time with this short style.
Speaking of hair, what color to dye it next month?

February is quite the insane month for us. So busy. With fun stuff.

Being an adult is weird.

JMc Love

Happy Anniversary to two of my favorite people:
John and Jordanna McGovern.

We count the McGoverns some of our closest friends
and are so thankful for their friendship.
These two paint such a beautiful picture of how to love tenderly and purely.
You can't help but be encouraged in their presence.
John is a strong Godly man, a deep thinker and a brilliant visionary.
Jordanna is a kind soul, dedicated to helping others and soaking in life's simple joys.
What a special bond we get to witness and learn from.

Happy Anniversary, J & J!
We love you!

Sloppy, Slothy Sunday

We're typically a homemade-dinner-at-the-dinner-table kind of couple.
But I'm realizing, I tend to relinquish all responsibilities, routines and.. well, hygiene on Sundays.
On Sundays, all bets are off.

The past few, I haven't cooked a darn thing.
In fact, one week I'm pretty sure we ate out all three meals.
I know. Disgusting habit.

Today we ate out twice. And didn't have dinner until nine o'clock.

Sometimes it just feels nice to let your hair down (or throw it up), enjoy a lazy Sunday and do things a little different than normal.

Benedict in Bed

Jeremiah's worked every Saturday morning since we've gotten married... except this one! I was so excited to enjoy Saturday morning together that I made Eggs Benedict to celebrate. It was a brand new recipe and as surprising as it sounds, I had actually never made eggs of any kind before. But our breakfast turned out rather tasty. Now that I know what the heck I'm doing, I'll have to add some yummy breakfast potatoes and fruit salad next time.

Happy Saturday!

Pennies from Heaven

While I've explained the title of my blog a few times, I thought I'd share with you the source of the idea. During my senior year of college, I read through Shauna Niequist's Cold Tangerines. Her book is all about celebrating the extraordinary nature of everyday life. In the chapter titled "Pennies," she describes a concept that has become not only the theme of my blog, but something I've centered much of my daily lif around. I'll let her explain:

"It's like when you're engaged, or worse, about to be engaged, and your ability to spot diamonds is sharper than a jewel thief's. You can be walking through a restaurant and get to your table and say, 'Honey, on our way in, I saw an emerald cut, about three quarters of a carat, a princess, and a cushion cut, and our server's ring is platinum, not white gold.' And your boyfriend is like, 'Mmmmm. Do I smell wings?'

I started to see pennies everywhere -- in the backs of drawers, under the couch cushions, at the sticky bottom of the center console of cars. There are always a few, along with bobby pins and ticket stubs, in the purses that aren't used every day. You find them when you need that particular purse for a particular occasion. And then you move them to some other random place...

Before I started collecting pennies, I used to throw them away, along with gum wrappers and used Kleenex. No one accepts them anymore, really. I keep hearing that they're going to take them out of circulation. Bank tellers glare at me when I try to hand them several hundred and ask for dollars and quarters instead...

All of a sudden, the loss of these pennies seemed tragic to me. So I started collecting them, in a pale blue bowl that my cousin Georgia gave me for Christmas. I sort them out of hte more substantial silver coins in my pocket and set them in their new place, the smooth blue bowl. I don't know what I will do with them, but there is something satisfying about watching their numbers grow, a little army of copper coins. It soothes me to think that if there is a place for them, then there is a place for everything. It seems immeasurably mature of me to do this, like like having dish towels and stamps nad spare light bulbs in all their respective places. It feels to me that if these worthless coins have a place, then they have meaning. And then if I have a place, I have meaning.

In a world where less and less actually exists, where you can spend money without actually having any in your hand, and you can chat in a room without actually chatting or being in that room, these smooth copper pennies are rare, curious things. They are the real thing...

Each one of our lives is a shot through, threaded in and out with God's provision, his grace, his protection, but on the average day, we notice it about as much as we really notice gravity or the hole in the ozone. So what I"m trying to do is learn to see the way Sister Carmen sees. Because once you start seeing the faithfulness and thehope, you see it everywhere, like pennies. And little by little, here and there you realize that all of life is littered with bright copper coins, that all of life is woven with bits and stories of God's goodness.

When I look back now, with these new eyes, it's like there's a bright copper bath I was walking on and didn't even know it. And it's the handful of pennies that I'm clutching in my sweaty hand that gives me the faith and the strength to move forward. What gives me hope is the believe that God will be faithful, because he has been faithful before, to me and the people around me. I need hte reminders. I need to be told that he was faithful then, and then, and then..."

Little Letters

Dear Gilmore Girls, I have you all queued up and ready to watch this weekend. Boy-oh-boy, you make any rainy day better.

Dear Rain, I'm want to gouge out your eyes, slap your face silly and punch you where the sun don't shine. Get the hint? You are over-staying your welcome (which lasted about five minutes).

Dear Treadmill, I haven't been cheating on you. I promise.

Dear Shrimp and Crab Fondue, I still dream of you weekly. (Don't tell Treadmill)

Dear Grandma, thanks for the chat last night. I really enjoyed it.

Dear Craft Table, I'll finish you as soon as this stupid weather subsides. I can't wait for you to be done and ready to use.

Dear Mom, how ya feelin?

Dear February, you've got an awful lot of exciting things in store: sewing class, LOST, birthday celebrations, facials with friends, superbowl, saturdays with my loverboy. I like you a lot.

Dear Wedding Anniversary, I know you're still four or so months away, but I can't wait to celebrate you in style. I'm so excited for all the goodies we have planned.

Dear Saturday morning, I'm going to spend you with the husband for the first time since we got married. I think a little eggs benedict in bed are in order.

Dear Special Funds, you're depleted. Lame-o. Darn crafts are so expensive.

Dear Hogla and Diana, I want you. Not in that creepy lesbian way though.

Dear Sunday, you better be relaxing OR ELSE.

Dear Self, how about going to bed before 11 and actually getting some sleep, hu?

Dear Bloggy-blog, I know you're lonely. I know you want to display pictures of lovely friends and beautiful crafts, but I've been slacking. I'm not going to make any promises but I see a better life in your future.

Dear Bible Study Girls, I like the relationships we're forming. Thank you!

5 @ 5

[A spin off of Leno's 10-at-10p.]

1. A kind co-worker shared his truffles with me today.
2. A meeting I had in a different building was converted into a conference call so I didn't have to go out in the rain.
3. I booked birthday facials today for Alyse and I. That's definitely the way to celebrate 23.
4. The rain has stopped just in time for me to go to the grocery store and not have to carry all my groceries out to the car while it's pouring down rain. Gosh, there's even sunshine! :)
5. I have 4 very lovely shows saved on DVR. Can't wait to dig in!

I Miss Him

I miss the small splashes of water he leaves on the bathroom counter.
I miss the fact that he takes out the trash, cleans the dishes, and brings in the mail.
I miss being able to sleep with another human being, instead of my teddy bear.
I miss falling asleep to his snoring instead of to the sound of the tv.
I miss that he walks my friends out to their car when they leave our apartment.
I miss convincing him he should stop studying and come watch Gilmore Girls reruns.
I miss kissing him goodbye when I leave for work in the morning.
I miss grocery shopping for two.
I miss dinners at the dinner table - with conversations about our day.
I miss the fact that he turns off the bedroom light so I don't have to walk across the room in the dark.
I miss watching him sleep in the morning while I get ready.
I miss his greeting when he comes home from work to find me cooking dinner.
I miss having him tell me I look cute.
I miss exchanging "I Love You's" with giddy smiles.

I miss my husband and wish he'd hurry his little butt home.

Who invented business trips anyway?

It's the little things.

The Big Five-Oh!

Today, my father-in-law, Mike, turned the big 5-0! We celebrated with him on Friday night when we had dinner and drinks at Black Angus. He was thrilled when we arrived with gift in hand: a huge pack of extra-large, super absorbent DEPENDS. I mean, really, why else do you have kids but to embarrass you in public? His niece helped our cause when she carried in a ridiculous bouquet of balloons: "Oh No. Five Oh!" they read.

Mike's the kind of guy that's always the life of the party. He's full of energy and jokes, never ceasing to entertain. He does a killer feminine voice and does the Y-M-C-A like it's nobody's business.

But when it gets right down to it, he has a heart full of love. It's been so much fun getting to know him better over the past five years. Here's to many more memorable moments.

I love you, Mikey!

Sin Miah. Con Aubrey.

I took Jeremiah to the airport this morning and it seriously felt like I was dropping my baby off at kindergarten. These will be the first days we've spent apart since getting married this summer so it was slightly difficult to send him half-way across the continent with a smile. But when I saw what a gorgeous day it was down on the harbor, I decided I had to spend the day there to cheer myself up so I picked up Aubrey and we went down to Coronado. There's something so magical about this city that fills my heart with such delight.

We basked in the warm summer-like sunshine drinking vanilla coke and enjoying lunch. As we walked down Orange, we decided to rent bikes and go for a ride. We spent the next two and a half hours riding around the island, chatting away, and taking in the breath-taking views: the golf course, the boardwalk, the city, the adorable homes, the marina. As we rode down the middle of the wide streets lined with beautiful green trees and houses full of character, I day-dreamed to my heart's content. While Jeremiah was "enjoying" the 20 degree temperatures in KC, Aubs and I were truly enjoying San Diego's 75 degree sunshine in January. In case you haven't heard me say it a million times before, I'm never moving.

Although difficult to top such a lovely day at the beach, we spent the evening relaxing in the jacuzzi, enjoying delicious appetizers and sipping mimosas.
We closed the day with a romantic chick-flick and a bar of Toblerone. Does it get any better? I'd say it was a pretty darn lovely Sunday!

Q to the COM

Good news from the Q:

Apple chose Qualcomm as its chip provider for the new iPhone coming out this summer.

And our Snapdragon chip will also be in Google's new Nexus One phone which is scheduled to launch in the spring.

Go Team!

Dollah Dollah Bills, Ya'll!

I often keep an eye out for the pennies in life. Heck, I made a whole blog dedicated to those non-copper ones. And while I think it makes a world of difference to cherish the life out of those little pennies, I also think it's valuable (necessary!) to marvel at the bills every once and a while.

There are small moments when life goes our way or when God peaks His little (ok, it's probably rather large) head out from behind the clouds.. you know, those times when the world is full of rainbows and unicorns and joy-ness for a quick minute (unless that kinda thing scares the heck out of you :) ), but then there are those ways that God has made Himself so known we'd be blind to miss Him. It's almost like His glory is living in our very eyeballs so we can't help but view the world through His goodness. Those bills, the ones that help make us so rich beyond measure, deserve some recognition, too.

So here's a peak inside my wallet today.

I am His beloved.
I am married to my best friend, a God-fearing man.
I have a wonderful family that lives close by.
I am healthy as an ox.
I am a college graduate.
I have friends with beautiful hearts.
I am employeed.
I live in San Diego, Ca, USA... where I can afford rent and water and cable and electricity.
My gramma was at our wedding this summer!

A Note to Self, Literally

If you remember one thing today, Jessi: Love what you love.

If you say you love something, love it with all your heart.
Don't compete against others at what you love.
And don't throw your love away on something that shouldn't be loved.

Love what you love.

It's OK to be Counting Sheep

I often read blog posts about people and their dreams.

"I'm so thankful my husband believes in my dreams, too."
"We spent hours discussing our goals and dreams."
"I'm living my dream and I couldn't be happier."

And it gets me thinking, almost daily: what is my dream?

Why aren't I discussing it, living it, and making sure my husband supports it? If I died today, what dream would I have for people to carry on in my honor?

I've come to the conclusion that: I don't have one.

I don't have that one big goal I've been working towards all my life. It's not like I've always wanted to be a teacher, nor have I always wanted to start my own business. As much as it'd be fun, I don't see myself up-routing and traveling the world.

And after months (and I mean months!) of pondering, I've decided that's okay.

I have smaller dreams.

And I think about those all the time. And my husband believes I can achieve them. And I'm starting to live them.

Pennies. ASAP.

Today was a good day, but for some reason I'm kind of in a weird mood this evening.
Ten Pennies. ASAP.

I went to the gym tonight even though I didn't feel like going. Props!
Zero episodes of Gilmore yesterday means TWO today. Frick yah!
I finally started contributing to my 401K. Don't worry, it's not like I've been an adult for a year or anything.
Pesto parmesan garlic bread. Enough said.
I saw a cute baby today. And enjoyed a mini daydream about being a mom.
Talked to my Pops.
I'm married to a kind man who does the dishes every night.
A perfect stranger greeted me like a friend at the grocery store.
L&L.. yup, Gilmore gets TWO pennies!
I don't have a dream. And that's ok.

Please pray for mom. Surgery's tomorrow morning.

Christmas Recap

On Thursday morning, I made me a batch of pumpkin cupcakes and we headed up to Escondido to spend Christmas Eve with my family. The appetizers were to-die-for! and my mom's packages are always ten times too pretty to open. But open we did. And pleased we were.

I am now the proud owner of two dozen gorgeous Anthro glasses and a set of beautiful bowls. My mom also made me the most adorable recipe book and a set of gorgeous cards. The birdhouse and garland that topped my gifts made me squeal with delight.

Jeremiah brought home a new bluRay player, some handsome shirts with monogrammed cuff links and a fireproof safe since we're adults now. :)

Mom made a delicious dinner and we ended the night with It's a Wonderful Life... well Fahj and Jer did... the girls fell asleep.

On Friday morning, we drove up to Fallbrook to celebrate Christmas with the McLeods. They have a few traditions that got to be a part of this year: warm cinnamon rolls with birthday candles, singing Happy Birthday to Jesus, reading the Christmas story and going to church on Christmas morning. Once we changed into our comfy clothes, we exchanged gifts by the fire. Jeremiah got a set of golf clubs, and I was so excited for the old Nintendo system and Super Mario game. Mmm memories!!

Too bad Tina and my mom have all the pictures... I'll have to steal some from them.
