Goodness me, isn't Petco Park absolutely beautiful?
I know.

Last night, dad and I enjoyed a game together
to celebrate his big 50th birthday.

As much as I would have loved for the Padres to win
{and really, to have a winning season this year}
I set my expectations a little lower last night.
All I hoped for was an exciting game that finished in 9.
And I got what I asked for.
Jurrjens threw an exceptional complete game
and the Padres kept it interesting with sloppy pitching.
It was a bummer they lost, but still a fun time.

I mean, c'mon
who can deny a ballpark hotdog,
a bag of peanuts
and people who sit behind you asking,
'do they like get penalty points for leaving runners on base?'
It was aw-to-the-some.

And for the first time in quite a while,
I kept score last night.
I know, I know, it's a geeky habit, but I just love it.
I love knowing how many first-pitch strikes the pitcher has thrown.
I love knowing which of the up-coming batters are lefties.
I love knowing all sorts of silly randoms like that.
And I love being invested in every pitch.
It takes me back to my days on the mound.

For the {love} of the game

The hubs and I went to our first baseball game of the season last night.
I'll just come right out and say it,
I love baseball.
A lot.

The cleanly chalked field, the freshly cut grass,
the scorecards, the concession stands,
the competition, the extra innings,
the announcers, the fans,
the strategy.

I love it.

Sad thing is: I took one measly picture,
even though we were dressed in our matching jerseys
and it was our first game of the season for gosh sakes.

But that's because I forgot.

I got lost in the game (swoon!),
in the company of my sweet husband,
and in the fact that we saw about half a dozen folks we knew there.

Perfect date night, if you ask me.

(even if the Padres did lose to the Reds in extra innings
who even roots for the Reds anyway...)

If you ask Jeremiah, he'd go for something with far more action.

That's love.

Anticipation

Well...

Dinner with my Papa and family tonight.
The weekend.
New-to-us patio furniture.
The Padres game next week.
Girls Night
A trip up to see these two lovebirds.
An upcoming lunch with my daddy.
Easter.
Our wedding anniversary next month.
Mrs. Schanaker's Birthday and Masters Graduation
The END of Busy Season.
our trip to Seattle this summer.
(Exact flights I wanted, at $200 less than I had expected,
Adorable little hotel, Padres/Mariners Game, Food Tour... Gah, I can't wait.)
And our upcoming family staycation.

Me loves the weekends

Remember that relaxing catch-up weekend I talked about?
I'd say that was a pretty fair prediction.

Aside from working until 7p on Friday,
the weekend consisted of things like:
Purchasing a new couch
A couple Starbucks stops
Catching up on DVR'd shows
Watching a few movies
Starting on Christmas cards
Stops at Home Depot, Lowe's and Ikea
Columbus Day gifts from Mom and Lys
A little bit of leisure reading in the sunshine
Dinner at my Parents' house
Football Games and MLB Playoffs
Christmas shopping
and a Sunset Double-Date Night on the Harbor

The sunset was beautiful.

I don't want to talk about it.

Stumbling to our Seats

A very generous friend at work

gave me free tickets to last night's Padres game.

So I invited a very fun, baseball-loving friend to go with me.Thankfully, a very gorgeous sunset displayed itself over the bay
and that very fun friend and I snapped a few pictures.Then, that very fun friend and I
enjoyed very delicious hot dogs and Parmesan fries
and a very lovely conversation
as the very unpredictable Padres pulled off
a very pleasant surprise.

And Thanks, Husband and Justin for working hard on our house
while Jay and I played downtown.

Oh, and Padres-Worker-Guy?
Thanks for accusing us of "stumbling to our seats"

Nine Games, Really?

Once I discovered I can get half-priced Padres tickets through work,

I snagged some pretty sweet seats for yesterday's game.
And since the Pads have led the NL West for a majority of the season,
I expected a pretty good game.
Well, a pretty good game is what we got.
Unfortunately, "pretty good" meant close and exciting
not close, exciting AND a win for the home town team.
Seriously, Pads? You're hanging by a thread or two these days.
It's time to stop the losing streak.
Please don't dip into double digits tomorrow.

Well, now that I've ranted and raved about another pathetic loss...

The Smell of Fresh Cut GrassAs I drove up to Building WT for an afternoon meeting,
I could see the men on their lawn mowers
generating one of my favorite smells of the summer
And for what it's worth, it pretty much made my day!

Rainbow SherbetI'm almost positive I've had my fair share of BR the past few weeks.
So instead of paying a couple bucks a cone,
I now have a tub of yum in my freezer.
And a tub of fat about to be added to my gut?

Morning ChoresI have a fairly strange habit
(at least Jeremiah seems to think so)
of doing chores in the morning before work.
I just love to come home to clean laundry
and an organized apartment.

Grocery ListsUnlike the list in this picture,
I've completely mastered the art of the "Grocery List."
Everything is listed by aisle
And I can typically do my shopping
in twenty minutes
(maybe thirty if it's crowded)

Baseball GamesEven though my boys got swept this weekend,
I absolutely love having the baseball game on each night
as I get chores done, craft, or read a good book

Sundays at Seaport

Have I mentioned how much I love Sundays? (Not to be mistaken with Sunday nights --- not a huge fan of Sunday nights!)

Yesterday, Jeremiah and I enjoyed a leisurely Sunday as we headed down to Seaport Village after church. I think I must have stopped and smiled at least 25 times yesterday to say: "Honey, I love it here!" And I do. I absolutely love being down by the bay. The sights, the smells, the sights, the sounds, the sights... the memories. It's absolutely beautiful. And Seaport reminds me of so many special things - like family vacations, college, date nights, Sunday afternoons, Valentine's Days, living downtown, Padres games and (drumroll, please) our engagement! I love love love San Diego. And the sneak peak of sunshine we got yesterday made me oh-so-excited for the upcoming Spring and Summer months. I just can't wait to spend more Sundays at Seaport!

Our Wednesday evening has been filled with a handful of lovely little treats.

We had loaded baked potatoes for the first time in a long time.
I decorated this frame to hang up in a few weeks for Christmas. (Thanks for the frame, Dawn!)
We drank warm apple cider out of fresh apples.

And we watched the Phillies beat the Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series. Okay, so the game's not over yet, but... Chase Utley's two homers will be enough. *crosses fingers*
