Caffeinated

Softball talk is like a gallon of coffee to me,
especially on a Monday morning.

Thanks.

Thankful for: The Prayers of Old Friends

This ritual goes back to high school.
I pitched. Jen caught.
I was number 7. Jen was number 14.
And whenever the clock struck 7:14, we'd think of each other.
It was just kinda our thing.

Well, I got a text this morning.
At 7:15.
Jen had seen the clock.
And had said a prayer for me.

What a good way to start the day.

Today I'm thankful for:

Because it's Monday

Some of my favorite moments over the past few days:

Chocolate Covered Strawberries + Cricket Crafting + Sister
Our Hiking Adventure with the Lowells
In-&-Out. Very tasty, though I still don't understand all the hype
Amra's play-by-play. (Thanks, dad!)
Going to bed at 9p Saturday night
A quiet and productive Sunday morning
Some time to read
Homemade Banana Berry Pancakes
Homemade sugar-free shaved ice. Mmm!
The swimming pool
A chat with a good friend (who's getting married on Friday!!!)
A lazy day of movies and games
Being well-rested
Hearing the barista say "the usual?"
The "DO NOT PAY" note on our SDG&E bill. God bless credits
Sunshine all weekend
Only two meetings today
A mini date with the hubs tonight

Happy Monday!

A Special Someone

I realize this is a ridiculous overload of pictures,
but I've been thinking about this pretty girl a lot lately.
And all these images have been flashing through my mind.
I used to refer to her as my twelve-year-old-best-friend,
but then she went and grew up.

She is wise beyond her years, insanely fun to hang out with
and such a loyal and loving friend.
I'm so thankful for her!

And can't wait to hang out in a couple weeks!

Food's a Funny Thing

The funny thing is
my appetite changes as I reminisce about different memories.

If I'm thinking about my gram a lot, I crave McDonalds.
If I'm missing those good ol' high school days, I crave Red Robin.
If I'm feeling classy and adultish, I crave drinks and fondue at The Brig.
If I'm wishing I was out on the softball field, I crave Subway.

It's strange.
Yet fun.

But I'm pretty sick of craving Subway.
A girl can only eat so many sandwiches.

quiet thoughts of an ex-softball playing newlywed

Thought 1: Two men walked by. One suggested to the other that they send their boss a get wellgift while he recovers from surgery. This conversation made my heart smile. Not necessarily because it was two people talking about doing something thoughtful for another (though that is nice), but because those two people were men.

One of the same men discussed the upcoming birthday of his wife. He baked her a cake (cute!) and was proud he found a card for her before her actual birthday.

There's something so special about thoughtful men. They're a dime a dozen. Their acts of kindness must be cherished. Praised. Encouraged.

I’m so glad I found one to marry.

Thought 2: I didn’t know Mariee very well. She was the Senior star athlete on the Varsity Softball team my Freshman year in High School. She was at every practice and workout, playing harder than almost everyone combined, with a smile equally as impressive.

Mariee passed away a couple weeks ago after a motorcycle accident in Oklahoma.

This, In honor of Mariee:
